The
Cyprus Mandora has received its name from
mand (arine) and ora (nge). Mandora’s
juice is of outstanding colour and the
flavour is sweet but well balanced with acidity and
has a strong and rich aroma. The fruit is of medium
size and slightly flattened at the bottom where
a small navel is often formed. The shape, peel texture
and thickness as well as external colour and internal quality, are much affected
by Cyprus climate which is ideal for Mandora growing. The rind is leathery
with reddish orange colour and easy to peel once you remove the upper part
with a knife. Despite somewhat tough segment walls, the pulp is tender and
extremely juicy, often exceeding 60 per cent by weight of the whole fruit.
